Bookalope offers customized designs for e-books and print books, and it generates templates for Adobe InDesign and Word to continue a publishing work flow using established tools. In the following we’ve used the novella The Rider on the White Horse by Theodor Storm from Projekt Gutenberg as a case example for our book designs.
Bookalope’s default styling is simple and functional. The e-books for Nook or iBooks (epub) and Kindle (mobi) adjust to the user’s font and page settings without trying to impose custom styles. The print-ready book (pdf) is a simple 6×9 inch book set in Cormorant. Finally, Adobe InDesign (icml) and Word (docx) templates carry all structural elements with only minimal styling applied.
We’ve been using our Bookalope tools for years to convert and design e-books and print books, and our own experience and requirements have guided the development of the Bookalope website. On this page we show off a few books that we built using the Bookalope tools offline.
Cry Ma Ma to the Moon
The novel Cry Ma Ma to the Moon is a story of adult fiction written by Lesley Synge and illustrated by Kathryn Brimblecombe-Fox. Both, e-book and printed book, were created with the Bookalope software. The e-book is available from Amazon, and the printed version of the book can be ordered from the author. The print book is a 6×9 inch hard cover, set in Tipografies Pona.
Horse Facilitated Therapy
Horse Facilitated Therapy is a text book, an experience account, and a guide book for counselors and therapists by Katarina Cernozubov-Digman. The book presents her decades of experience as a therapist working with children and young adults, and countless illustrations drawn by children support the author’s examples. Both, e-book and printed book, were created with the Bookalope software. The e-book is available from Amazon, and the printed version of the book can be ordered from the author directly. The print book was required to be letter-sized and single page for ring-binding.
Older books that are available as e-book or print were built with earlier versions of the Bookalope software. They are The Breath of Love and Moving Dhamma Volume 1 by Bhante Vimalaraṁsi, and the My Silver Daydream Series Book One and Book Two by Katarina Cernozubov-Digman. Other books and booklets were used to exercise our software, but they never made it into public stores.
